Hantavirus: Prevention, Health, and Collective Care

Hantavirus: Prevention, Health, and Collective Care

Hantavirus is a disease transmitted primarily by rodents. People can be exposed to the virus through contact with urine, feces, saliva, or materials contaminated by these animals particularly in enclosed spaces, storage areas, rural dwellings, or places with poor ventilation.

Although it is not a common disease, it can be severe. Therefore, the best tool is prevention: keeping spaces clean, preventing the presence of rodents, and exercising extreme caution when cleaning areas where contamination may be present.

Initial symptoms may resemble those of the flu: fever, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, or general malaise. In more severe cases, difficulty breathing may occur, making it crucial to seek medical attention.

Prevention and Daily Wellness

  • Seal cracks or openings through which rodents may enter.

  • Store food in airtight containers.

  • Avoid accumulating trash, boxes, or materials where rodents could nest.

  • Ventilate spaces before cleaning them.

  • Do not sweep or vacuum dry feces; these must be disinfected first.

  • Consult a doctor if you experience suspicious symptoms.

  • In this context, nutrients such as selenium, Vitamin C, and omega-3 fatty acids can be part of a healthy routine focused on supporting the normal functioning of the immune system.

Nutrients That Support Wellness

  • Selenium contributes to the antioxidant protection of cells and supports normal immune function.

  • Vitamin C aids in the normal functioning of the immune system and contributes to protecting cells against oxidative stress.

  • Omega-3s promote general wellness and constitute an integral part of a balanced diet for daily self-care.

Hantavirus prevention is both an individual and a collective responsibility. Keeping spaces clean, avoiding contact with rodents, and adopting good health habits are key actions to protect ourselves and others. A wellness routine that includes a healthy diet and nutrients such as selenium, vitamin C, and omega-3s can help strengthen the immune system as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Taking care of your health also means taking care of those around you.
